My children have been going to DFK from the start, and they've never been "afraid" of the dentist. We've had great experiences over these past 18 years and I highly recommend them, especially to new parents.
This is a great dentist for kids! I take both my daughters here and the staff always makes them feel comfortable and relaxed. Love Dr. Matt he is the best and he always makes my girls feel like they're the best patients ever!
We have had a number of fillings for baby teeth for our older children, which apparently have much thinner enamel, but there have been no problems with their adult teeth so far. The dentists explained to us, though, that decay in baby teeth is a breeding ground for decay in neighboring adult teeth. Our goal has been to treat cavities in baby teeth in the hopes that the adult teeth will stay healthy and decay free. So far, this has been successful with both children.
Dentist visits tend to be difficult in one way or another besides this one. I have only had very positive experiences here and always leave with a smile. The staff here are incredible!
Our schedule is very flexible (in fact, I prefer to go during school hours, when it is quieter), but I can imagine that scheduling appointments for younger children might be difficult as others have indicated. Like it or not, though, both children and adults are "fresher" and have more patience earlier in the day, and I know that the practice likes to reserve afternoon and later appointments to keep their school-aged patients from missing school.
Another child needed orthodontia and oral surgery. We had no issues when we said we wanted to see an outside orthodontist. Our dentist was very supportive. In all, we have been happy with our care.
I did take one star away because I have had more than one friend suggest getting a second opinion for an orthodontist, if your child needs to have orthodontia. One of our children had cosmetic orthodontia recommended, but we declined. We had no problems with the dentist pushing it, he simply said that if it was something we were considering, now was the time.
We have been going to DFK in Monroeville (cannot vouch for other locations) for twelve years now. We have multiple children, and each child has been different. Some have had no cavities; one had baby teeth that developed cavities as quickly as you could blink. (All eat the same foods, and we don't have a lot of sugary snacks.)
DFK has dealt with everything from my children's healthy mouths to emergency abcesses, and to the staff's credit none of my children is scared to go to the dentist. In fact, they all go enthusiastically, even the one who has sensory issues. He presented the office staff with some difficulties when he was younger, but I felt that they were handled as well as possible.
Have been going there with my 3 children since they sprouted teeth:) 10-12 years. They made my children never fear going to the dentist. Always very efficient. Appointments are on time, short and well coordinated. Even at the last minute! We've only had a few cavities over the many years but the fillings went well. Staff has always been super friendly and knowledgeable! Highly recommend!
