LGBT STUDENTS BEWARE. Monroeville has a very strange demographic, heavy in the white conservative types who are homophobic and racist. When I was in school, only a few years ago, there were 2 openly gay students in the whole high school. I felt isolated and afraid– not feelings that foster a nurturing learning environment to say the least. There are some good teachers at the school, yes. I avoided the worst kinds of students by being in honors classes, but I pity the students who aren't so lucky every time I drive by this horrible place.
This school district is absolutely ridiculous. If you're rich, or play sports, they will bend over backwards for your child. If not, tough luck!
Best place for an education
Graduated in 2007 and got a great education. Take advantage of the excellent teachers. Stick with the honors and AP classes and you'll come out on top.
It has been more than 17 years since I went to this school but my experience was quite poor like some of the other reviewers with the intense bullying and racist behavior. And this was in the late 1990's & year 2000 which seems like a very long time ago. I'm glad I left this high school and my family moved to North Carolina away from the close minded people. I got suspended back in March 2000 by the principal for standing up to a bully and pushing him back. Fortunately I spent the rest of my junior year in home school before relocating to Cary, NC. I am so glad I am far away from this close minded bigoted high school. Plus the education was sub par and the teachers didn't care how you did. Go to a private school if you can afford it!
